Daimler subsidiaries plead guilty to bribery

Two units of Daimler AG pleaded guilty to violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The plea was part of an agreement with prosecutors to resolve allegations that the German car and truck maker paid bribes to foreign officials.

The plea was part of an agreement with prosecutors to resolve allegations that the German car and truck maker paid bribes to foreign officials.

DaimlerChrysler Automotive Russia and Germany-based Daimler Export and Trade Finance pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., to conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and to violating anti-bribery provisions.

The subsidiaries admitted paying bribes to Russian and Croatian government officials for contracts to sell cars and trucks.

Daimler, the Stuttgart-based parent of Daimler Trucks North America in Portland, in March agreed to pay a $93.6 million fine to settle the criminal probe, which includes penalties for the two subsidiaries….
