It’s No Cars Go In San Juan, Puerto Rico, Makeover

The government has decided to infuse the city with $1.5 billion dollars to re-develop San Juan and, most of all, make it a walking city, with no cars allowed.

The old part of the city, “the Isleta,” is rife with poor urban planning scars, such as inaccessible beaches due to ports and an excessive reliance on cars. How interesting. i just finished a survey on home accessories in the UK (with a far small sample) - guess what : red and light blue came out as the top favourites again among all the bright colours we asked people to choose!

AOL Aims High With Hyperlocal Journalism Project

The initiative, called Patch, launched its 100th local news site on Tuesday. AOL is expanding the program quickly and plans to cover 500 communities by the end of the year. But the company faces competition from well-established hyperlocal sites, and profitability remains to be seen.

…Most people don’t look at the big picture either, so when comparing the expenses and compensation of companies they will only look at the numbers, not the numbers as a percentage of revenue which is a more accurate representation.

Community health centers provide primary, dental and vision services to people in the community, based on a sliding scale for payment according to ability to pay. We already have these and honestly I’d go to a physician and pay out of pocket before I’d go to a community health center. If I didn’t have the money to pay out of pocket I’d go to the ER, before going to the local community health center. To put that into perspective for you, my local hospital is crappy and compared to other community health centers I’ve seen my local center seems to be pretty good. Barnes & Noble Considers Selling Itself

Barnes & Noble today surprised the industry by revealing that it was contemplating “strategic alternatives” that could involve selling itself.

…I’ve known a few people who have ebook readers, but the fact is I think a LOT of people are still buying paper books. This surprises me a bit. How long have record stores been still selling even if other stores exist? Not to mention ebook readers have been out for what just a couple years? It took a lot longer for the recording industry to start to fall apart….

Should I Open A Savings Account With My Girlfriend

The short answer is “probably not” but there are definitely other considerations.

Answers:
1. Sure, if you’re on the same page about how the money will be spent, who will contribute what to the account and how often, etc. I’m assuming that you trust this person enough to stick to whatever agreements you make together about the account.
Keep in mind: you don’t HAVE to combine any part of your finances as a committed couple. It’s never a requirement, so don’t feel pressured into it. How you handle your money as a couple is up to you, but lots of people find a joint account (if not accounts) convenient and a big part of how they handle the money question with their Significant Others. Just make sure you’re both clear on the rules.
3. You can open a savings account solely for the purpose of saving for your trips together. Be aware, though, that if you are joint owners of the account one person can just clean it out without the other person’s permission. Of course, this hopefully will never happen, but I think as long as you trust your partner it’s a risk that is manageable….
